In Loving Memory of

Uriel Aviad Silberman

Love, Volunteer, and Enjoy Good Food
A Life of Service, Compassion, and Friendship

On January 19, 2024, we tragically lost Uriel Aviad Silberman, a beloved son, brother, partner to his girlfriend, soldier, and friend, who was killed in action in Gaza during the Iron Swords War. Uriel's life was a testament to selfless service, boundless compassion, and a profound love for others.
From a young age, Uriel was driven to give back. His Bar Mitzvah year, themed around "Love," saw him forge a deep and enduring connection with a child with special needs. This wasn't mere charity; it was a relationship built on mutual joy and respect. His kindness continued through his volunteer work with Yedidim, where he answered every call for help without hesitation, regardless of the hour or weather. One story perfectly illustrates his character: on a sweltering summer day, after assisting a stranded motorist, Uriel was offered a cold drink. Instead of consuming it himself, he thoughtfully saved it, knowing someone else on his next call might need it more. This simple act reflected his unwavering commitment to kindness and paying it forward.

Uriel's generosity extended beyond emergency assistance. A talented chef, he poured love and care into his cooking. Even when a dish wasn't to his liking, he always found something positive to say, demonstrating genuine respect for the effort and creativity behind every meal. His culinary skills were matched by his dedication to volunteering at ILAN’s summer camp, where he led the operational team with both strength and sensitivity. Despite the demanding workload, Uriel remained attentive to the needs of others, holding meals for colleagues and ensuring everyone felt valued and supported.

Education and mentorship were also central to Uriel's life. Through Tzohar, he guided children preparing for their Bar Mitzvahs with patience and creativity, even connecting with those who struggled with ADHD or ADD through songs and joyful learning. One student, when Uriel was called up for reserve duty, refused to accept another teacher, insisting, "It’s Uriel or no one." Only months after Uriel's passing, a suitable replacement was finally found, and the student celebrated his Bar Mitzvah late, in Uriel’s honor.

Uriel was more than a friend; he was like family to many. Each friend felt uniquely close to him, and rightfully so. Every Friday before Shabbat, Uriel sent personalized greetings to each of his friends. Whether organizing trips within Israel or abroad, he meticulously handled every detail, ensuring his friends felt safe, cherished, and cared for.

Uriel Silberman's life shone brightly as a beacon of selflessness, dedication, and love. His memory will forever inspire us to embrace kindness, to offer help without hesitation, and to treasure the connections that give life meaning. May his legacy endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
